NATO Summit Media Reception

The brief was to design, produce and manage a high profile Media Reception event at the designated location of Tredegar House on September 4th 2014, to entertain an indeterminate number of media figures from around the world who were in Wales to cover the NATO Summit. The event was to showcase the best of Wales in the look and feel of the event, which was to follow the 'Wales Made' brand developed for the Summit, in the entertainment we were to provide, and to showcase the finest Welsh food and drink.

The Orchard process within the three week timescale was to:

  • Design the look and feel of the event - we used a clearspan marquee in front of a floodlit Tredegar House to really show off the attractive façade of the building to best effect.
  • Engage the finest Welsh food and drink suppliers to showcase great Welsh fayre - because Orchard works regularly with these suppliers on Welsh food events around the world, we were able to bring in the Welsh Culinary Team, featuring some of Wales' leading chefs, to create a rolling hot buffet of samples of the best flavours of Wales, promote leading Welsh international food brands such as Anglesey Sea Salt, and give journalists the chance to sample specially brewed beers for the occasion, such as 'Obeerma' and 'Merkale'.
  • Arrange a programme of stage entertainment to give visitors a flavour of Wales.
  • Provide high quality furnishing and dressing, staging, lighting and all audio visual equipment for the marquee. The 'Wales Made' brand was in evidence throughout the marquee, with large contemporary images of Wales, and our own large scale 103" screens playing Welsh tourism films on loop. We managed to access a striking and impactful CROESO installation to welcome guests, and this proved extremely popular.
  • Complete Event Management including logistics, traffic management and security.

This NATO event was for a significant and influential audience, and created a hugely positive impression of Wales to the world's media.  It was very well received, and played a part in the overall success of the Summit for Wales in global terms.  It also demonstrated Orchard’s ability to handle high profile events at relatively short notice, because of the sufficient in-house resources and infrastructure Orchard has to be able to react to requirements as they emerge, and a network of suppliers and freelance staff to call on as appropriate.
