Here at Orchard, we not only provide destination management for clients wishing to use Cardiff and South Wales as a venue, but we have provided venue finding services and destination management for a number of UK clients looking to hold events throughout Europe, and further afield.
Keeping up to date with venues, destinations and trends is all part of our service, and I was lucky enough to be invited by the Costa Brava Tourist Board to attend a FAM (Familiarisation) trip to Costa Brava. A beautiful area of Spain, the Costa Brava is highly popular during the high season but out of season, it is largely empty. Increasing MICE bookings out of season is one avenue that the Costa Brava Tourist Board are looking at in order to fill these empty rooms and venues.
The trip consisted of visiting many beautiful venues such as Roses, Girona and Lloret de Mar, as well as multiple face to face meetings with local suppliers, and the trip left me with a greater understanding of the offering that Costa Brava has for corporate clients. In fact, I am already matching events to venues in my mind!
A few days later, still buzzing with new ideas from my trip to Costa Brava, I was in London for a Cvent Connect Conference. Aside from catching up with old and new friends, I was able to see the latest technology and solutions available to event management professionals. Online delegate portals, integrated apps, meeting solutions, badge printing as well as improved social media and marketing integration can all now be utilised to provide a fully integrated event management solution.
However. In this age of increasing technology, it is easy to forget the human side. One key point that I took away from my trip to Costa Brava was NEVER to underestimate the importance of meeting real people, and seeing real venues. We would never recommend a venue to a client unless we have been to see it in the flesh ourselves - pictures of a venue online can never do it justice and reveal its true essence. Face-to-face meetings is worth every minute of your time.
We are humans, and we like other humans. Connecting on a personal level is still so much more effective than a digital handshake.
It’s all part of the Orchard service.
