Graduates of the WISE programme celebrate

From homeless to 9 to 5

Meet our new member of the team, Dan.

Having worked very closely with our charity partner Huggard and being passionate about the issue of homelessness in Cardiff, we decided to take part in the WISE programme with The Wallich. WISE is a Working in Sustainable Employment course, where people who were once homeless are encouraged to boost their confidence, skills and employability through group sessions, one to one support and a work placement.

So, meet Dan.

Dan came to work with Orchard from the WISE scheme on a 6-month program back in January. Whilst working with us over the last 6 months, Dan has proved himself to be a very hard and passionate worker and has moulded with our team extremely well.

Dan said on his experience, “It’s a long journey but I know now that I’m out the other side, I’m much happier now. I’ve settled into a privately rented flat, I have a child and I love my job at Orchard, it gives me a real buzz.”

We’re thrilled to say that we were able to offer Dan a full-time job here at Orchard, and he is now a valued member of our cracking team. Not only is he loved by both the team and clients, but he also excels on the rugby pitch and captains the Puffins Homeless Rugby team!  Just goes to show what can happen when you give someone a chance.
