A few weeks ago, our team left Orchard HQ to prepare for one of the biggest jobs of the year so far, the four-day-long UEFA Champion’s League Festival taking place on the 30th May to the 2nd June. Taking place in the heart of Madrid, our team management the entire festival, including programming high calibre international artist and running the Main Stage in Puerta Del Sol; installing and managing the Champions Pitch where the legends of the game entertained the crowds; displaying the Champion’s League League Trophy before the 2019 winners get their hands on it; staging the Champions League Gallery; co-ordinating the Commercial Partner Activations with big name brands such as PepsiCo, Sony PlayStation and Mastercard; as well as handling all Video Production (phew). We even took on new Spanish speaking staff at our Cardiff HQ so that we could collaborate with several international companies and deliver the project successfully.
Our Head of Special Events, Dave Driscoll said,
“Madrid was the largest and most successful Champions League Festival UEFA have ever had. The Spanish authorities tell us that some 700,000 visitors came along to the four-day festival, over 150,000 of them from the UK. Main Stage entertainment in the city’s Puerta Del Sol came from the likes of international DJs Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, and Colombian singers Carlos Vives and Sebastián Yatra, and we were at capacity every night with over 30,000 people watching the concerts.
Unprecedented numbers came along to see the exhibitions and the Champions League Trophy, and on the Champions Pitch on Plaza Mayor there was a tournament featuring legends of the game like Ian Rush, Roberto Carlos, Figo, Deco, Luis Garcia and Del Piero, amongst many other top names. Orchard also coordinated the Commercial Partner Activations with big name brands such as PepsiCo, Sony PlayStation and Mastercard, and our Production team shot all the official festival film for UEFA, with over 23 million views even before the game. This has been Orchard’s largest production to date, managing a number of international contractors, and pretty exhausting to be honest, but as a football and music fan, it’s terrific to be involved in the world’s biggest club game, and shows what Orchard can do on a global stage.”
