With technology moving at the speed of light, and life moving at the speed of… well… life, all the technical gubbins under the hood of a well-built website can last for years - with some having chugged along for up-to-ten years. That’s a good inning.
However, “what about the design... what about the art direction?”. Ultimately, the ‘why?’ people should give a damn about visiting and staying on your website. According to a study at Stanford University, around 75% of people judge the credibility of a company based on the design of its website alone. Pretty hefty right?
Don’t just take our word for it. See for yourself here. (Admittedly that website is in definite need of an update. Just sayin’...)
Art direction for the web is ever-changing. But, why should you be hitting that refresh button on your website?
1. Is it user-friendly and intuitive?
We’ve all been there - minutes of your life wasted hunting around a website just for that contact number! Frustrating, right? Don’t burden that feeling on your visitors and potential customers. You want your visitors to be flying around your site - navigating all the cool things you have to offer and grabbing that contact number straight away!
2. The big one everyone seems to like to ask - has your website been updated in the last 3 years?
If the answer is "No!” in your case, then maybe it’s time to be considering that change? Design trends are ever-changing, BUT... and here’s a big BUT! If your website is doing its job and you’re liking what you have - then just small changes are the way forward through updated designs and content.
* Free advice! If you’re using flash, then you’re going to want to change that - it’s on its last legs and been on that life-support for a while.
3. Is your website still reflecting you and your business?
Each time your business makes a change, your website should also reflect that change. No matter how big or small that change is - update that bad boy! New phone number? Update that site! Revised vision; new brand; a new mission statement or proposition? Update that site! New partners or clients? Keep on updating! It is a lot easier to focus on smaller updates than massive overhauls.
4. "Just Google it!"
With around 74% of us searching through Google – the corporate giant cannot be ignored. And Google does love an update - and the ‘GoogleBot’ loves them even more. It creeps around the world wide web constantly searching for those web pages that are being updated. If your content is getting updated often with valuable information - then you have a better chance of Google ranking your site higher with each update. In a nutshell; more content = more keywords. Go get that #1 spot!
We’re not here to tell you what to do. If your website is doing its job and it converts, has repeating visitors and all that – then we’re also liking it. However, if you would like to find out how our web team can help make your website work even harder for you, then drop our Head of Creative an email: firstname.lastname@example.org. We will bring your website to life.
