The Royal Opening of Walnut Tree Depot
Transport for Wales commissioned an event to mark the official opening of its new metro depot, hosted by a VIP guest of honour – His Majesty King Charles III.
The event required a dedicated space for presentations and refreshments, alongside careful choreography of the royal visit from arrival to departure.
The event welcomed 100+ attendees, including TFW stakeholders, dignitaries, security personnel, and local school children invited to greet the King on his arrival by train.

Implementation
- Built a temporary structure to house presentations, an exhibition space, and catering facilities.
- Built a dedicated structure for school children to welcome the King as he arrived by train.
- Produced detailed planning of the King’s event journey, with close attention to timings throughout the visit.
- Supplied a stage, lectern, and a bespoke commemorative plaque for the King’s unveiling inside the depot.
- Arranged a local Welsh choir performance to welcome the King.
- Coordinated closely with security teams to ensure the safety of all attendees.

The event ran smoothly and delivered a memorable royal occasion, despite a weather warning that forced last-minute changes to the planned logistics. Careful contingency management ensured the King’s visit, the choir performance, and the plaque unveiling all proceeded seamlessly for the 100+ guests in attendance.
