Teaming up on climate change

Welcoming a new Charity Partner

After a 3 year successful charity partnership with Mental Health Foundation, we are delighted to announce our new 2022 charity partnership with leading climate charity Size of Wales, using our communications skills to help raise funds for forest communities around the world and raise awareness of the importance of tropical forests in tackling climate change.

This new partnership will help halt and reverse the decline of tropical forests globally. Size of Wales launched with the support of HRH The Prince of Wales in 2010, and in its first 10 years supported communities to sustain over four million hectares of tropical forest (twice the size of Wales!).

Working towards our B Corp status, the global standard for socially and environmentally responsible companies that puts purpose above profit, we have already put spades in the ground for our ‘Guarantree,’ a pledge to plant a tree each time a new piece of work lands, with a fruit orchard growing fast at Coed Hills Rural Artspace.

Orchard Director, Tim Powell said: “Size of Wales is doing some terrific work in helping to put the brakes on deforestation around the globe, such a significant factor in climate change. We want to use the skills and talents of our team at Orchard to raise awareness of their invaluable work and engage and inspire the people of Wales to get involved, alongside our local efforts to plant trees in our own communities.”

Size of Wales supports forest projects around the world, and provides funding and expertise to local and indigenous communities in South America, Africa, and South-East Asia. In addition, the charity delivers a nation-wide educational programme and is campaigning for Wales to become a ‘Deforestation Free Nation’ and reject imports of everyday commodities such as unsustainable soy, beef, and cacao that cause deforestation in places like the Brazilian Amazon.

Nicola Pulman, Director for Size of Wales said: “We are committed to making Wales part of the global solution to the climate crisis and empowering everyone to play a part. We are therefore delighted to be working with Orchard to amplify the message that protecting tropical forests is vital to preserving life on our planet and meeting global climate commitments.”

Deforestation and degradation of the world’s forests causes more CO2 emissions than all the world’s transport combined. Size of Wales supports local communities in Africa, South-East Asia and South America to help conserve existing tropical forests and grow trees. At COP26, Welsh Climate Change Minister Julie James MS announced that the Welsh Government will be changing its procurement policy so it does not contribute to overseas deforestation.

We’re so excited for this partnership, working with the charity on their upcoming campaigns and fundraising efforts, whilst them offering guidance and support to our internal eco-team.
