St David’s Day Market, Spitalfields’ Lamb Street

We were tasked with creating a 2-day pop up food market that would celebrate both St David’s Day and showcase Welsh Food and Drink in Central London. This included venue finding, site design and management, exhibition design and brand management, producer recruitment
as well as set up, on-site tech and event management,
and de-rig.

Venue Finding

Working with Welsh Government and Menter a Business, we were able to facilitate a recruitment process to pick a selection of the best of Welsh produce. We reached out to over 20 producers, of which 12 were selected to participate at the St David’s Day Market.

Josh, our in-house Exhibitions Designer, created CAD drawings of proposed layouts, as well as renders to showcase the potential of the decided location, helping the client identify the full scope of the project, and bringing it all to life
for them.

For location, we strategically chose the foodie centre of Spitalfields in London as our canvas. A prime location for all foodies, this space became the backdrop for our 12-producer market.

Alongside Lamb Street, we secured Bishop’s Square for promotional purposes, staffing the area to draw people into the market. This was supported with social media opportunities including giant letters spelling ‘Wales’ and ‘Cymru’ and a daffodil wall, the perfect photo opportunities for anyone attending!

The market consisted of 12 gazebos, one allocated to each producer, which was tailored to the producers’ requirements with fridges or a table, power and finally a 2x2m branded backdrop, which they could then keep post event.

To draw in the crowds, we offered a branded food truck with live food demos by esteemed Welsh Chef, Nerys Howell alongside performances from a Welsh Choir, of which we provided all the tech. In addition to this, flags and A-boards promoting the event were strategically placed around the site to direct people into the market.

“An excellent event – extremely well organised and a wonderful opportunity to meet both new and long standing customers in London – highly recommended. I can not compliment them enough.”

Weekend footfall and engagement exceeded expectations for both the client and producers, and we’ve been welcomed back by the neighbourhood committee to recreate the event next year – feedback the venue has not had before.
